IMS™: Interconnect Management Systems

Definition

Interconnection refers to the establishment of electronic linkages between service providers so that they can exchange traffic. It is the physical and logical linking of telecommunications networks used by the same or different service providers in order to allow the users on one service provider’s network to communicate with the users on the same or another service provider’s networks.

The problem - content provider -> transport provider -> End user

Nowadays, it became imperative for the regulator to draw a line between the transport service provider and the content service provider.

This is to ensure a wider choice for the end user, the elimination of all monopolies and fair access for the community of subscribers to any new Application and/or Content Service provider.  New Application and Content Service Providers will be guaranteed fair and equal access to all operators’ subscribers via standardized, regulated and open interconnection platforms that are managed by the Regulators and the network service providers.  In order to manage the 3-way relationship [content provider -> transport provider -> End user], GVG is poised to provide the regulator with both Regulatory and technical assistance.

The Solution

The Global Voice Group IMS Package: "Interconnection Management Systems". GVG is the first provider to introduce the concept of Intelligent Interconnection Management Service to the regulators in Africa and around the World.

Generally, Regulators automatically adopt polices and regulations based on ITU regulations and general industry trends. With the elimination of State monopolies and the adoption of free trade policies, Regulators have to face the emergence of powerful regional network operators as dominant players in the marketplace.  These dominant operators have embraced the free and fair  access doctrine of the ITU when it comes to interconnection.  Most Regulators lack the tools to assess the quality of service, to enforce the service level agreement applicable to the interconnection, infrastructure sharing and the obligation for dominant operators to provide access to their POIs.  Under the IMS™ umbrella, we empower the regulator by bringing him a package of products and services.  With the adoption of new policies and the standardisation of existing regulations, the management of the technical aspects of interconnection becomes the core focus of our IMS™.

The IMS™ Package comprises of:

Legal Assistance to harmonize existing interconnection regulation

Technical Assistance to re-engineer and upgrade the existing Interconnection Infrastructure

Modern Interconnection Infrastructure

Intelligent Interconnection Services (IIS)

Interconnection Border Control System (IBCS)

Revenue Assurance Services (RAS)

The IMS™ benefits:
