Definition Interconnection refers to the establishment of electronic linkages between service providers so that they can exchange traffic. It is the physical and logical linking of telecommunications networks used by the same or different service providers in order to allow the users on one service provider’s network to communicate with the users on the same or another service provider’s networks. This is to ensure a wider choice for the end user, the elimination of all monopolies and fair access for the community of subscribers to any new Application and/or Content Service provider. New Application and Content Service Providers will be guaranteed fair and equal access to all operators’ subscribers via standardized, regulated and open interconnection platforms that are managed by the Regulators and the network service providers. In order to manage the 3-way relationship [content provider -> transport provider -> End user], GVG is poised to provide the regulator with both Regulatory and technical assistance.
